Staff were asked to bring a motion for a standing resolution to defer bylaw enforcement on Thormanby Island shoreline protection issues, after a delegation asked the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee to pause enforcement related to seawalls within foreshore setbacks.[1]
The minutes say the delegation sought a hold on enforcement measures against property owners for seawall repair violations within the 7.5-meter setback, and asked that the issue be deferred to the Thormanby Islands Foreshore Protection Pilot Project.[1]
Planner McCargar told the committee the pilot project had been on its future-project list since 2013, but a project charter had never been initiated.[1]
The minutes record trustees’ discussion that individual property owners could request Development Variance Permits, and that the committee could consider applications one at a time; they also note a distinction between maintaining existing structures and changing or expanding them.[1]
The committee later asked staff to provide a draft business case regarding the Thormanby Island Foreshore Protection Pilot Project.[1]
