The Gambier Local Trust Committee’s next step on proposed shoreline rules for Keats Island is to schedule a public hearing; no date was set at the September meeting.

The proposed bylaws would create a shoreline development permit area extending 15 metres inland from the natural boundary of the sea and 100 metres seaward, and set rules for shoreline work and marine structures on Keats Island. The committee had given the bylaws second reading as amended, and a public hearing was the next step if it decided to proceed. [1]
At the September 15 community information meeting, a speaker asked trustees to delay further votes until after a public hearing on Keats the following summer. Trustee Dan Rogers said no meeting was scheduled at the time and that the next step would be a public hearing if the committee decided to hold one. [1]
The minutes record Rogers saying the summer meeting had been cancelled because of a COVID outbreak at the camp the night before, and that it had been a community information meeting, not a public hearing. [1]
Island Planner Marlis McCargar said the proposed development permit fee was $1,000 and applications typically took at least three months, depending on complexity. She said replacing a few boards would not require a permit, while replacing an entire structure would. [1]
The minutes say the committee amended proposed float sizes on September 1 before giving second reading, and Rogers clarified at the meeting that the amended sizes differed from those then shown on the website. The planner said an updated version would be posted. [1]
