The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee defeated a motion to exempt certain additions to existing buildings from the Keats shoreline rules, then asked staff to draft guidelines for permit applications involving additions to pre-existing dwellings in Development Permit Area 3.[1]

The proposed exemption covered additions between 7.5 metres and 15 metres from the natural boundary of the sea, up to 50 square metres, subject to conditions including no removal of native trees or environmental degradation.[1] The minutes record discussion about whether the exemption should require a qualified professional’s assessment and whether residents should be able to use already-disturbed yards.[1]

The committee then voted to read Bylaw 153, an Official Community Plan amendment, and Bylaw 154, a Land Use Bylaw amendment, a third time, and to forward them for approval.[1] Trustee Joe Bernardo’s opposition to the bylaws was recorded in the minutes.[1]
