The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee supported implementing 15 Squamish Nation recommendations in its Official Community Plan and land-use review, and asked staff to prepare draft policies or regulations for the committee to consider next.[1]

The committee also asked staff to send four other recommendations to the Gambier Island Advisory Planning Commission for review and comment.[1]

In a separate motion, the committee supported a recommendation for Squamish-language signs on Islands Trust Conservancy nature reserves on Gambier Island, and asked staff to draft an advocacy letter seeking funding for signs on trails and in areas identified as important by the Nation.[1]

The committee also asked staff to add discussion of joint funding for the signs to the next Sunshine Coast Regional District protocol meeting agenda.[1]

The minutes say the committee supported further Squamish Nation recommendations on zero-carbon building requirements, home energy-efficiency rebates, biodiversity protection and archaeological assessments for new dock applications.[1]

The meeting was held electronically on October 1, 2024, and the minutes record that it adjourned at 3:17 p.m.[1]
